A Starfish Story
There is a popular starfish story I like where a young boy is throwing starfish back into the ocean so they don’t die in the sun. Life sometimes seems overwhelming like saving the starfish. There are so much happening, so many problems to solve, people who need help. How easy it would be to just wring our hands and think there is nothing we can do. The starfish story tells us we can make a difference and we don’t even have to do anything gigantic. We can offer a smile to someone, we can volunteer in our own communities, offer a shoulder for someone to cry on, visit someone who is shut in or just be there for someone who is grieving. Finding Strength in the Wind
When we hear the word Powerless, we sometimes think it means being passive.I don’t necessarily think this is true. There are circumstances in life that we truly have no control over such as the weather, disease, death. We don’t have power over what desires we have, but we do have power over what actions we take.
When these circumstances present themselves to us, we are powerless over them but not helpless.We can do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves and help us deal with them. We rely on friends and family to see us through and we in turn help someone else. Another words, we adjust our sails and keep moving on.
Powerlessness is not an excuse to give up and bail out on life and responsibility.

Step 3 alludes to the idea of “turning our lives over”. This is a difficult action in that we all like to have control. The mere thought of giving that up is very scary and yet it is only when we do, our lives become more manageable. The Serenity Prayer says “Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference”. Let go of all that is keeping you down and live for the moment.

Wendell’s is proud to be celebrating it’s 125th anniversary!

As Wendell’s celebrates their 125th Anniversary this year, it has been enlightening to reflect on the past, see pictures of our company in it’s early beginnings, seeing people who have long (and some newly) retired and reflect on where we have been, where we are now, and where we want to go. Our roots are well planted, but our branches are continually being stretched and growing as we reach our new heights.
