The Starfish Story
Before you head off to the beach this summer take this story to heart...
A man was walking along the beach early one morning. Down the beach, he saw some young people dashing back and forth into the surf. He smiled thinking they were enjoying a game on this beautiful morning, so he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw they were carefully picking something out of the sand, running to the surf and gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, "Hello! What are you doing?"
They paused in their game, looked up and one replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"Why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out, if we don't throw them in they'll die."
"But don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You can't possibly make a difference!"
After listening politely one bent down, picked up another starfish and gently threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said- "It made a difference for that one."
